China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Telecom just held a ceremony for the donation of one thousand China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting terminals to the Organizing Committee for the Beijing Olympic Games and has formally announced plans to serve the Olympic Games with the mobile multimedia standard of CMMB.
During the ceremony, SARFT displayed various terminals equipped with CMMB chips through which users can receive and watch radio and TV programs via a wireless TV network.
At present, the CMMB terminals are said to include mobile phones, PMP and USB cards. So far, seven manufacturers, including Lenovo, ZTE and Amoi, have begun to produce CMMB standard mobile phones, and Huaqi and Freetech have begun to produce car-loaded PMP. In addition, USB cards are also made by four Chinese companies whose names have not been disclosed.
A representative from SAFRT said that CMMB will further its cooperation with TD-SCDMA products, though SARFT is not so eager to push CMMB to be a national standard.
