According to the latest report released by the market consulting company Analysys International on China's mobile phone game market in the third quarter of 2008, the market scale of China's Java and BREW mobile phone games reached CNY320 million in the period.
The report says that China Mobile's Java market scale reached CNY218 million in the third quarter of 2008, increasing 15.86% compared with the second quarter of 2008. Of that amount, the revenue maintained stable growth in July and August. However, because the number of the mobile phone games reportedly exceeded the limitations of China Mobile, the company started to block stand-alone games from September 1, 2008 and reduced the game products on its game platform by two-thirds. The decrease of the number of mobile phone games affected the revenue of mobile phone game companies to a certain degree, but it is expected to rise again in November.
The revenue of China Unicom's mobile phone games was CNY102 million in the third quarter of 2008, increasing 3.74% compared with the second quarter of 2008. Its BREW platform maintained a stable but slow growth in the period concerned and the main reason for the slowness is because the increase of its mobile phone game users was not so fast.
