In response to recent media reports that the Chinese electronics retail giant Gome will enter the TV direct sales market, He Yangqing, a spokesperson from Gome, now says the company has no plans of this sort.
According to previous local media reports, Gome was planning to invest CNY1 billion to enter China's TV direct sales market, aiming to promote its offline sales while facing the global economic recession. The TV direct sales business of Gome would reportedly be launched at the beginning of 2009.
However, Gome's spokesperson cleared the rumor and said although Gome had been investigating the TV direct sales sector, the company currently has no plans to enter this business. However the spokesperson seems to not have ruled out the mopve sometome in the future.
The rumor about Gome's entry into the TV direct sales market started early in 2006 and the company had publicly announced plans to hire management staff in the TV direct sales industry. But nothing eventually came of all the hubbub.
