China Telecom Will Complete CDMA Network Upgrade In 340 Chinese Cities In 2009

According to information from China Telecom, the company plans to complete its CDMA network upgrade and capacity expansion in 340 Chinese cities in the first half of 2009.
At the same time, to provide CDMA users with better wireless Internet experiences, the company will increase the speed of its CDMA wireless broadband from the current 153Kbps to 1Mbps in over 80 major and medium-sized Chinese cities, and it may even increase speeds to 3Mbps in the future. At present, China Telecom's branches in Shanghai and Wuhan have started preparation for the upgrade.
By the development schedule of China Telecom, the company will invest CNY80 billion in the optimization of CDMA networks in the next three years and the project will be divided into two phases. The first phase is the launching period of CDMA business and the company will invest CNY27.9 billion in the CDMA network construction in this period.
So far, the CDMA mobile core network and business network construction of five cities and provinces, including Beijing, Fujian, Gansu, Guangxi and Chongqing, are further ahead in schedule than the other places.
