Leading Chinese venture capitalist Zhang Fan has called it quits from his position as founding managing partner at Sequoia Capital China.
Reuters reports that Zhang actually resigned late in 2008, though the Sequoia Capital website still lists Zhang as an employee. At Sequoia Capital, Zhang oversaw investments in companies such as Accelergy, Asia Media, and Maxscend.
Prior to Sequoia Capital, Zhang worked at DFJ ePlanet Ventures, where he served on the boards of Chinese search engine Baidu.com and Chinese wireless value-added services company KongZhong. He also led the investment in Chinese outdoor digital advertising firm Focus Media. Previously, Zhang worked at the investment banking division of Goldman Sachs Asia.
Zhang reportedly left the Sequoia Capital job for personal reasons, and is now rumored to be pondering the establishment of a China-focused VC fund.
