China Unicom Publishes Operating Statistics For January 2009

China Unicom has published its operating statistics for January 2009 and states the number of its GSM mobile phone users realized a net increase of 839,000 during the period.
Statistics show that the total number of China Unicom's GSM mobile phone users reached 134.20 million by the end of January. In addition, the number of its local phone users realized a net increase of 125,000 to 109.45 million while the number of its broadband users realized a net increase of 971,000 to 31.05 million.
The statistics of the fixed line business include those of Tianjin and the 21 provinces in the southern areas of China, which were acquired by China Unicom in January 2009.
Another Chinese telecommunications operator, China Telecom, also published its operating statistics for January 2009, which state the number of CDMA users increased 1.02 million, the first user increase since the company acquired the CDMA business from China Unicom.
In addition, the number of China Telecom's broadband users increased 760,000 while the number of its local phone users decreased 970,000.
