According to Gu Weizhong, director of the Guangdong Communications Administration, to promote the integration of mobile communications fees in the Pearl River Delta, the administration will ask basic telecommunications enterprises to reduce or even cancel the long-distance and roaming fees of calls made between cities in the Pearl River Delta in southern China.
Gu said basic telecommunications enterprises should further improve the mobile phone packages and adjust packages that have large price differences to reduce or even cancel the long-distance and roaming fees of calls made between cities in the Pearl River Delta.
In addition, the administration will take measures to promote the price decrease of fixed line calls in the neighboring areas of the Pearl River Delta to lower the fees of calls made between different cities to the level of those made in the same city.
Gu revealed that the number of phone users in Guangdong decreased 1.2 million over the past three months and the negative influence brought by the global financial crisis to Guangdong's communications industry is still deepening.
