UMC Revenue Up 1.6% In June 2009

Taiwan-based United Microelectronics Corporation has announced that its revenue in June 2009 increased by 1.6% year-on-year to NTD8.24 billion and its revenue in the first half of 2009 decreased by 32% to NTD33.47 billion.
The company did not mention the reason for its revenue growth during the month.
Prior to this, UMC said due to the rise of demands, its wafer shipments in the second quarter of 2009 were expected to double compared with those in the first quarter. The company also predicted an increase of its operating rate from 30% in the first quarter to 75%.
By revenue, UMC is the world's second largest wafer foundry, following Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.
