According to a report published by China Yahoo's community operation department, the company plans to close its one-year-old social networking site Yahoo Guanxi on October 30, 2009.
The report recommends users of Yahoo Guanxi to back up their photos and personal files on this site, because all these files will be eliminated upon closure of the service
Alibaba Group, China's B2B e-commerce giant and the parent company of China Yahoo, has been integrating services of China Yahoo during the recent period. At the end of August 2009, it announced a new restructuring plan for China Yahoo and dismantling plans for Yahoo Koubei, the lifestyle information service, from China Yahoo. The e-commerce group said at that time that this service will be integrated with Taobao.com, its Internet shopping subsidiary, and China Yahoo would continue to provide email, content, and search services.
Yahoo Guanxi is the SNS platform launched by China Yahoo on October 13, 2008.
Days ago, Yahoo sold all of its shares in Alibaba.com's Nasdaq-listed entity, but it still retains about 40% of Alibaba Group, the holding company for Alibaba.com, Taobao.com, Alipay, and other Chinese e-commerce services.
