China Mobile Hong Kong announced that it has selected Ericsson and ZTE to build a seamless converged FDD LTE and TD-LTE network in Hong Kong.
TD-LTE technology will be added on the existing FDD LTE network to build a dual-mode network. The two companies have equally share in the form of 50% respectively on the network construction project.
China Mobile Hong Kong won the bid for the 2300 MHz TDD band in February and launched the 4G services riding on the FDD LTE network in April 2012. In addition, the company announced earlier that it plans to launch the converged FDD LTE and TD-LTE network 4G services in Hong Kong by the end of this year. After rigorous selection and tests, the company selects Ericsson and ZTE as the technology partners on network construction.
This move is expected to further enhance China Mobile Hong Kong's existing 4G LTE network, utilize the network resources and optimize the network quality to provide superb and stable mobile network services to customers.
Sean Lee, director and chief executive officer of China Mobile Hong Kong, told local media that they have successfully performed the live 4G LTE FDD and TDD handover in Hong Kong recently. Meanwhile, they demonstrated the roaming capability on TD-LTE and FDD LTE network between China and Hong Kong in Hangzhou on June 19, which was the first demonstration of this kind in the world. It clearly stated that China Mobile Hong Kong masters the technical solution on the seamless integration of FDD and TDD networks. They are very confident on launching the dual-mode network services to the market by the end of this year. They hope the dual-mode devices will be available to market soon, so as to cope with their converged 4G network services.
