Mofcom: China's Home Appliances Rural Project Sales Reach Nearly 80 Million Units In 2012

In 2012, China's nationwide home appliances rural project subsidy scheme, excluding provinces and cities like Shandong, Henan, Sichuan, and Qingdao, achieved sales of 79.913 million units, a year-on-year increase of 22.6%; and the total sales value was CNY214.52 billion, a year-on-year increase of 18.8%.
The statistics come via the Ministry of Commerce of China's recently published statistics.
In December 2012 alone, the number of products sold via this project was 4.986 million units across China, a year-on-year increase of 28.3%. Meanwhile, the sales value of these products was CNY13.28 billion, a year-on-year increase of 28.3%.
By the end of December 2012, the accumulated sales of home appliances had reached 298 million units since the launch of the project, and the total sales value had reached CNY720.4 billion.
By region, Anhui, Hebei and Jiangsu represented the highest sales, accounting for 33% of the total sales in the entire country. By product category, color TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners, and water heaters were the most popular products, accounting for 83.3% of all the products sold via the project. By brand, Haier, Gree, and Hisense topped the sales list with CNY25.05 billion, CNY18.98 billion, and CNY17.21 billion, respectively. The sales of these three brands accounted for 28.5% of the total sold products.
