China Unicom Net Profit Up 68.5%

China Unicom's annual results for 2012 showed that the company's operating revenue increased by 19% year-on-year to CNY248.93 billion in 2012; and its net profit increased by 68.5% year-on-year to CNY7.1 billion.

China Unicom's revenue from services was CNY210.13 billion, a year-on-year increase of 13.1%; its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization were CNY72.66 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.6%; its basic earnings per share were CNY0.301; its operating cash flow was CNY70.62 billion, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%; and its capital expenditure was CNY99.79 billion.

For service revenue, China Unicom's mobile service revenue ratio increased by 4.4% to 60% in 2012; while its non-voice business revenue ratio increased by 3.9% to 53.1%.

Meanwhile, the company's mobile user group increased by 19.9% year-on-year to 239.312 million; and its mobile service revenue increased by 22% year-on-year to CNY126.04 billion. Of the total mobile users, 3G users accounted for 31.9%, an increase of 11.9% compared with the previous year; 3G revenue contributed 47.4% to the company's mobile revenue. China Unicom also said that its average revenue per user in the mobile sector increased by 1.3% to CNY47.9 and the ARPU of 3G users was CNY86.1.

During the year of 2012, the number of China Unicom's 3G users saw a net increase of 36.437 million to 76.456 million; and the number of its GSM users saw an increase of 2% to 162.856 million.

In addition, China Unicom's fixed-line service revenue increased by 1.9% to CNY83.21 billion, of which non-voice services contributed 70%. The number of broadband users increased by 14.8% year-on-year; and the broadband service revenue increased by 11.8% year-on-year to CNY39.37 billion.

The company's financial report also revealed that China Unicom added 92,000 3G base stations in 2012, reaching a total of 331,000. Its 3G network coverage reached towns and villages in eastern, middle, and developed western areas in China.
