Latest statistics shows that by November 30, 2005, Chinese police had totally identified 90 criminal cases related to Internet pornography, arrested 221 suspects and closed down 598 websites, and revoked 35 illegally-purchased domain names.

According to Zhao Shiqiang, director of the Public Information Network Security Supervision Department of the Ministry of Public Security, the police department will enlarge management and supervision on mobile phone fee payments as a measure to cut off pornographic information via mobile phones, which are said to have become a major channel for such content.

In addition, the police discovered through the registration system that more than 5000 websites in the country are running business without being duly registered.

The police say that these websites will soon be closed if their owners fail to remedy their situations.
