Beijing Netcafes Get Big Brother Monitoring

June 19, 2006
Editorial Staff

A new netcafe computer management software will be installed free of charge in all legally-registered netcafes in Beijing by the end of this year to help the government supervise the operation of these netcafes.

The software can directly feed netcafes' information to a government supervision department via the Internet. Information that can quickly be sent include the user's name, ID number and the content the user browses online.

The Beijing Municipal Culture Department will be primarily responsible for installing and maintaining the system.

According to a technician from the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, an information security protection rule in Beijing will be unveiled in August 2006.
