An electronic identity tag, which has been worked out jointly by the National Citizen Identity Information Center of the Ministry of Public Security, major Chinese telecom operators and Guozhengtong Company, has been formally launched.

Users can log into the identity website at www.id5.cn or send a short message to register with their real personal information. After the personal information is verified by the National Citizen Identity Information System, they can receive an ID tag number, a number which is exclusive to them. The fee for the service is CNY5 per person.

Huang Haijia, chief operation officer of Guozhengtong Company, says that the ID tag can be used in e-commerce, matchmaking and instant communications.
