Chinese Game Industry Predicts CNY54 Billion Revenue In 2008

It's the final day of 2008, and according to a report released by the Game Software Department of the China Software Industry Association, the total revenue of China's overly-saturated game industry is expected to be over CNY54 billion for the entire year.

The report states that so far there are more than 550 major online game companies in China and the total revenue of these companies will be over CNY20 billion in 2008, accounting for 37% of the total revenue of the entire game industry.

Game consoles and their related businesses will contribute about CNY32 billion revenue in the same period, accounting for 59.3% of the total revenue. Other games such as mobile phone games, training games and those in other areas, are expected to make about CNY2 billion, accounting for 3.7% of the total revenue.

In addition, Chinese-made animation games grew rapidly over the past year and these games now occupy about a 70% share of the Chinese game market.
