SK Telecom Co. has reported that it has received approval from China's telecommunications regulator to establish with China Unicom Ltd. a $6 million joint venture–UNISK Information Technology Co. Ltd.
The new JV will provide wireless Internet services to China Unicom's 19 million CDMA subscribers and will be headed by China Unicom's Shang Bing as chief executive and SK Telecom as vice president Lee Soo-Hyuk president.
SK Telecom and China Unicom originally signed an agreement in March 2003 to set up a wireless data service joint venture in Beijing, holding respective stakes of 49% and 51%.
