In recent weeks, consumer advocates have called for telecom companies to provide fixed-line phone users with detailed call logs. Now the Beijing branch of China Railcom has announced that they will begin providing the logs to consumers.
China's mobile phone users have long had access to detailed call logs, but fixed-line phone users have been without this feature. The telecom companies say that the administrative costs for providing all fixed-line users these logs is too high and will substantially increase normal fixed-line service fees.
However with fierce competition from China Netcom Beijing and Beijing Telecom, respectively, Railcom expects its new log service to gain it new customers.
Starting in March 2005, Railcom will begin offering logs to about 50% of its 400000 users in Beijing and will provide the service to all users within a year.
