The Shanghai Municipal Department of Industry and Commerce is currently soliciting public opinions on the new "Shanghai Municipal Internet Email Service Agreement", the first of its kind in China.
This agreement is jointly drafted by the Shanghai Municipal Department of Industry and Commerce and the Shanghai Information Service Association. It is expected to be launched on March 15, which is Consumers' Day in China.
The agreement stipulates that email service providers should use Chinese to display email settings and email error messages so that users can know the status of their messages.
In addition, it requires service providers to notify users in advance when a system upgrade or other necessary adjustment is scheduled.
In particular, this agreement will greatly impact the fate of paid email services, but professionals quoted in local media believe that paid email will not fade out anytime soon. However, they suggest that paid email service providers explore more profit-making models while making efforts to improve their email functions and service.
