This year's World Telecommunication Day in China will see the opening of mobile phone TV service in Guangdong Province in southern China on May 17.

This new service is run on a trial basis by Guangdong Mobile Television Service, an affiliate of Southern Radio, Film and Television Media Group (SRFTMG), who has authorization to conduct the pilot program in Guangdong Province.

The test results from this pilot will have a direct effect on the creation of a national industry standard.

During the initial period, the service will be opened in six cities in Guangdong Province, including Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhongshan, Dongguan, Shenzhen and Zhuhai, and it is expected to cover the whole province by the end of next year.

According to SRFTMG, the terminals included in the service are from Samsung, LG and DMB, but some national mobile phone brand will be added at a later time.

Guangdong Mobile boasts 9.8 million mobile phone users.
