With the development of the State Golden Card Project and IC Card application underway, RFID technology has been preliminarily applied in various sectors in China.

Zhang Qi, director of the State Golden Card Project Coordination Leader Team, says that China has offered a great space for RFID industry development as it has the most important IT production base and consumption market in the world. Its RFID pilot program and demonstrative project has helped push the Golden Card Project from the urban to the industrial and agricultural sectors across the nation.

At present, there are about 2800 enterprises in China that are engaged in IC card related products development and production. Zhang says the issuance of the second generation ID card, that is based on RFID technology, has greatly promoted the development of RFID in the country.

Zhang disclosed that RFID and e-tags have been listed as the key task of the State Golden Card Project this year and as an important demonstrative project in the 11th Five-Year Plan.
