Telecom & Wireless

Yantai Unicom, a subsidiary of China Unicom (CHU), has taken a lead in the country by canceling the long distance fee and roaming fee for domestic calls of its users.

It has instead worked out a new unified price of CNY0.25 per minute for both local calls and long-distance calls.

A manager from Yantai Unicom tells local media that the new package is mainly targeted at business people and traveling groups and it can help them save more than 50% off calling fees each month.

Yantai Unicom has 3 million CDMA users, and Yantai Unicom's CDMA services have always been priced quite high. However, after this adjustment, the cost for CDMA is now lower than that of GSM in the area.
