Another rumor about iPhone's entry into China has spread on the Chinese Internet. According to the network approval list of the State Radio Monitoring Center of China, a GSM/WCDMA mobile phone product of Apple has passed the model examination in China.
Because the iPhone is the only mobile phone product produced by Apple, the rumor that the approved Apple mobile device is undoubtedly the iPhone. In addition, news on local Chinese media report that files from the State Radio Monitoring Center show that the validity period of the approval is five years, starting from May 7, 2009.
In regards to this rumor, China Telecommunication Technology Labs, the organization under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in charge of mobile phone testing in China, told local media that Apple's iPhone only gained MIIT's model approval for wireless transmitting equipment, rather than a mobile phone network testing license, which means the iPhone product still cannot be sold in the Chinese market.
According to experts from the CTTL, mobile phone products sold in China should have both a model approval for wireless transmitting equipment and a mobile phone network testing license. The former is to make sure that the mobile phones can meet the frequency requirement of China and will not disturb the wireless signals; and the latter is make sure that the various functions of the mobile phones, including the safety of batteries, can meet the requirements of MIIT.
At present, though Apple's iPhone has gained a five-year model approval for wireless transmitting equipment, it will not be allowed to be sold in China until it gains the mobile phone network testing license.
