Taiwanese telecom operator Taiwan Mobile has published its performance report for the second quarter of 2012, stating that its total operating revenue increased by 32% year-on-year to NTD23.722 billion, which was about USD788 million; and its net profit increased by 13% year-on-year to NTD3.914 billion, which was about USD130 million.
According to the report, Taiwan Mobile's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization reached NTD7.198 billion in the second quarter of 2012, an increase of 9% compared with the same period last year. For the first half of 2012, the company's earnings per share were NTD2.7, an increase of 19% year-on-year.
During the same period, Taiwan Mobile's capital expense was NTD1.68 billion and its free cash flow was NTD4.7 billion. For the first six months of 2012, the company's accumulated capital expense was NTD3.42 billion and its free cash flow reached NTD8 billion.
The mobile data service was reportedly the major driver for Taiwan Mobile's business growth and it stimulated a year-on-year increase of 6% of the mobile service revenue of the company. By the end of the second quarter, Taiwan Mobile's penetration among Taiwanese smartphone users reached 31%, promoting its mobile Internet revenue increase by 65%.
Taiwan Mobile also reported that its smartphone sales increased by 50% year-on-year during the second quarter of 2012. Of the total sales, about 45% were products under the prices of NTD9,000. Meanwhile, the sales of smartphones accounted for 74% of total mobile phone sales.
