Xiaomi Eyes European Online Store For Accessories

March 11, 2015

Xiaomi's global vice president Hugo Barra revealed during Mobile World Congress 2015 that the company plans to launch its online store in the European market for the sales of accessories.

Like its American online store, Xiaomi's European online store will mainly be a brand display channel in the overseas market and it will be used to collect user feedback.

Barra said that it is going to be a different Mi.com experience from what they offer in Asian markets, because they are not selling phones via the European online store. They are only going to sell a small number of accessories such as Mi Band, studio-grade headphones, in-ear headphones and the popular power banks.

Apart from its high-end flagship product Mi Note and the recently released Redmi 2, Xiaomi also makes other smart products like TV boxes, routers, and an air purifier, which are only available in the Chinese market.

Prior to this, Barra said that they do not sell phones or tablets because of hardware certification, software testing, and infrastructure issues. However, products like power bank and mobile phone accessories will not lead to regulatory issues.

Xiaomi also faces pressure outside of China on the security and privacy features of its phones, as rivals like ZTE and Huawei have come under pressure in Europe, Australia, and the United States for their respective security issues and ties to the Chinese government.
