China Unicom's deputy general manager Jiang Zhengxin said that China Unicom attaches great importance to the development of big data and considers it as a strategic business for the group and has therefore set up a big data company.

The big data company will mainly focus on the external operations and asset realization of big data. By cooperating closely with various industries, China Unicom will realize the role of big data in industrial development, to promote the development of "big data plus".

According to Jiang, China Unicom is one of the first companies to realize centralization of big data in China. Based on existing big data centers and its SmartSteps company, China Unicom has decided to set up a big data company and introduce world-class talent and technologies. Meanwhile, the company will internally implement a big data-based operating model transformation.

At the same time, China Unicom will create a big data open platform to allow more enterprises, especially small- and medium-sized enterprises, to develop big data applications more conveniently. The company will continue to develop more products and applications to directly provide big data applications to various communities.

Financial terms of the investment in the big data company were not released by the company.
