China Mobile Guangdong has teamed with many manufacturers in opening China's first 5G base station in the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center.
China Mobile has implemented 5G field testing and this makes Guangzhou one of the first cities to test 5G mobile services in China.
Compared with 4G technologies, 5G network has better performance and supports ultra-high speed, ultra-low delay, and large connection application scenarios.
China Mobile deployed seven testing points in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, covering the stadium, library, staff canteen, laboratory building, and teaching building. The 5G base station launched this time is basing on a new 5G air interface, which is also China's first in field testing.
The final international standards for 5G have not yet been determined. According to China Mobile's current 5G planning schedule, they will implement field testing in 2017 and 2018 and start scale testing for commercial use. At the same time, China's major device manufacturers have completed 5G base station R&D results and the scale commercial use is expected to be completed in 2020.
