Silicon Valley Scientist Jia Yangqing Joined Alibaba

According to reports in Chinese local media, Jia Yangqing, a Chinese scientist previously worked for Facebook, has formally joined Alibaba as vice president of technology.

In his new role, Jia will command the research and development of big data computing platform.

Jia has the Bachelor's and Master's degrees of information technology automation of Tsinghua University and he gained his PhD of computing science at University of California, Berkeley. During his doctoral period, Jia developed and opened source of deep learning frame Caffe, which was applied by Microsoft, Yahoo, Nvidia, and Adobe. As the developer of Caffe, Jia is known by the industry for his sharing of the development result to the world.

Before joining Alibaba, Jia worked for Facebook as engineering director and he was responsible for large-scale artificial intelligence platform architecture.
