China Unicom recently announced that they will expand the trial of eSIM wearable device independent number business to the entire country.
At the same time, China Unicom announced an exclusive strategic cooperation relationship with JD and the two parties will join hands to promote the eSIM independent number business and eSIM consumer electronic products across China.
As the first operator that launched eSIM business in mainland China, China Unicom has established an eSIM management platform, developed the only eSIM electronic certificate service system in the Chinese market, and completed upgrade of IT supporting system.
According to public files, China Unicom started cooperation with Huawei in November 2017 and jointly launched Huawei sports watch which supports eSIM independent number; and they launched business trial in seven cities, including Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, and Zhengzhou. In March 2018, China Unicom reached cooperation with Apple and opened eSIM dual devices with one number for Apple Watch 3 and Apple Watch 4 in those seven cities. So far, there are 200,000 smart watch users opened eSIM service in those seven cities.
Since 2018, China Unicom has supported eSIM technology docking for over 20 smart devices of over ten companies, including smart speaker, smart rearview mirror, and POS terminal.
