China's Svolt recently signed a strategic cooperation memorandum of understanding with Underwriter Laboratories Inc. for technology research and development cooperation in the battery security sector.

Under the agreement, Svolt and UL will implement parts testing technology cooperation in power battery and energy storage battery areas.

UL is a non-government institution which is engaged in security test and identification. As an independent and for-profit organization, UL provides professional tests for public security. "UL certification" is not mandatory and it mainly serves testing and certification of product safety performance.

It is said that with extensive technology experience in the security sector, UL will offer professional technical consulting and research and development supports to Svolt's product development and certification. Meanwhile, Svolt will participate in UL's related standard compilation. In addition, the two parties will realize in-depth communication about the standards and regulations of Chinese and American new energy industry to jointly contribute to the new future of battery security.

Svolt is formerly the power battery business division of Great Wall Motors. It became an independent company in February 2018.
