Apple was unable to obtain an injunction against the use of the MatePod trademark by the Chinese gadget manufacturer Huawei. Apple tried to ban the trademark in China, but the local CNIPA office denied the request. The iPhone maker claimed that the MatePod name is very similar to its own trademarks, including iPod, HomePod, EarPods and AirPods, however, this argument did not affect CNIPA. The Chinese trademark office also added that Apple provided insufficient evidence to prove that Huawei copied the name. Apple’s lawyers are likely to appeal soon.
