In a significant step toward domestic semiconductor equipment self-sufficiency, China's Hefei Kaiyue Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd. has delivered its flagship CRYSTAL TRACK Rubi 3 12-inch inline coater-developer to a major domestic memory chip manufacturer.
The deployment marks a critical advancement for China's front-end semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, addressing a vital supply chain segment where domestic alternatives have long faced high technical barriers.
Coater-developer machines, known as tracks, work in tandem with lithography systems to handle essential wafer processing steps including photoresist coating, thermal baking, and chemical development. Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Hefei, Kaiyue Semiconductor transitioned from equipment maintenance services to independent research and manufacturing.
The newly deployed Rubi 3 flagship system features a stacked parallel architecture supporting up to 24 spin-coating chambers and 80 thermal processing units, achieving peak throughputs of up to 300 wafers per hour. The system is engineered to support i-line, KrF, ArF, and ArF immersion lithography across a wide spectrum of semiconductor nodes, including logic chips, DRAM, NAND flash, and power devices.
Mastering coater-developer technology is crucial for China's broader push toward semiconductor self-reliance. While lithography machines frequently capture public attention, the entire lithography ecosystem relies heavily on coater-developers to ensure precise chemical applications and high-yield manufacturing.
