China's Tencent has introduced a new open-source AI model named Hy4 preview, designed for software engineering, research, and financial analysis. The model features a 'mixture-of-experts' design with a total of 770 billion parameters, of which only about 49 billion are utilized for each text request. Tencent plans to incorporate this model into its products, including CodeBuddy and WorkBuddy. However, the early-release version of the model may encounter delays in processing complex queries and sometimes exhibit excessive self-verification.
Tencent's latest move in the AI space coincides with its increased investment in artificial intelligence, aiming to stay competitive in a crowded market. In addition to the Hy4 preview, Tencent previously unveiled the Hunyuan 3.0 language model in April. This release follows the appointment of former OpenAI researcher Yao Shunyu to lead the company's AI platform development efforts.
The release of the Hy4 preview underscores Tencent's commitment to advancing AI capabilities within its ecosystem, catering to the growing demand for sophisticated coding and research tools in China. By leveraging this new open-source model, Tencent aims to enhance the efficiency of tasks across multiple domains, from software development to financial analysis. With the integration of the Hy4 preview into Tencent's suite of products, the company is poised to offer users enhanced AI-driven solutions, building on its track record of innovation and technological prowess.
