Sony Pictures isn’t bending the knee to the CCP after it was demanded that they remove scenes from the film that featured the Statue of Liberty. The dispute occurred in late 2021 when executives were working to secure a Chinese release date. Even though the Statue of Liberty plays a major role in the film’s ending, China wanted it digitally removed. Without the Chinese release date, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ grossed $805 million in North America, though the reason for the Chinese banning was never made clear.
