Shanghai Telecom has launched a Green Online service that enables users to effectively management the computer networks at their home.
The new service adopts international advanced Internet blocking technology to filter online porn, violence and relevant unhealthy content. The blocking is usually done at the the telecom company so it won't affect user's online surfing speeds and habits, but this new service puts the power of firewalls in the hands of average Chinese Internet users.
The Green Online service facilitates parents' management of their children's computer use by setting up an independent account for each of them. For example, it a child goes online, the network will shut down automatically if the child has already used up the alloted amount of time. With this service, parents can also check the online records of their children to see whether the content they browse is healthy or not. Parents can register for this service at Shanghai Telecom outlets around the city.
