Surging Chinese Web Portal Revenue For NetEase.com

Chinese Internet web portal NetEase.com (NTES) says its total revenues for the second quarter of 2008 were CNY715.9 million as it announced its financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2008.
Those total revenues are compared to CNY651.9 million and CNY558.0 million for the preceding quarter and the second quarter of 2007, respectively. Revenues from online games were CNY595.0 million for the second quarter of 2008, compared to CNY555.9 million and CNY475.1 million for the preceding quarter and the second quarter of 2007, respectively. Revenues from advertising services were CNY103.9 million for the second quarter of 2008, compared to CNY77.1 million and CNY65.3 million for the preceding quarter and the second quarter of 2007, respectively. Revenues from wireless value-added services and others were CNY16.9 million for the second quarter of 2008, compared to CNY18.9 million and CNY17.5 million for the preceding quarter and the second quarter of 2007, respectively.
Gross profit for the second quarter of 2008 was CNY722.8 million, compared to CNY532.0 million and CNY437.8 million for the preceding quarter and the second quarter of 2007, respectively. Gross profit margin for the online game business for the second quarter of 2008 was 91.2%, compared to 90.2% for each of the preceding quarter and the second quarter of 2007.
Total operating expenses for the second quarter of 2008 were CNY149.7 million, compared to CNY127.6 million and CNY142.8 million for the preceding quarter and the second quarter of 2007, respectively.
Net profit for the second quarter of 2008 totaled CNY438.2 million, compared to CNY269.4 million and CNY312.6 million for the preceding quarter and the second quarter of 2007, respectively.
