The Chinese provincial government of the tropical island of Hainan and Microsoft China signed a strategic memorandum of cooperation for Microsoft to build its first Chinese Microsoft Innovation Center in Hainan's international information industrial zone.

This move aims to make Hainan an important strategic site for Microsoft's global industrial deployment.

Under the memorandum of cooperation, the two parties will implement full strategic cooperation in software industry development, next-generation information technology development, software talent training, information application development, and intellectual property rights protection. With these efforts, they aim to accelerate Hainan's software industry development, improve information application levels, and support the construction of Hainan's economy.

According to Li Guoliang, vice governor of Hainan, based on the global influence of Microsoft and the advantageous resources of Hainan, the new Microsoft Innovation Center will attract software enterprises in the tourism, marine, and agriculture industries in China and abroad to form an industry cluster in the province. Meanwhile, it will support and cultivate a CNY5 billion software ecological industry chain.

To support the sustainable development of the software industry in Hainan, Microsoft will establish an IT institute in the province to train IT talent with cutting-edge technology knowledge and practical experience.

Financial details of this deal have not yet been released.
