According to Taiwan's National Communications Commission, people who sell or buy "Shanzai" mobile phones via the Internet or in electrics marts will face a fine of up to NTD300,000, which is about CNY60,000, in Taiwan.

According to reports in Taiwanese local media, NCC recently stated that under the Administrative Regulations on the Controlled Telecommunications Radio-Frequency Devices, Taiwan residents should bring no more than five "Shanzai" mobile phones from the overseas markets at one time and the number should be limited to two if the mobile phones are sent by post.

The word "shanzhai", literally meaning "remote village" in Cantonese, has become a popular name for Chinese fakes and the slang now refers to anything that steals ideas or styles from already well-known products, personalities or concepts.

Meanwhile, the commission said if people sell or buy "Shanzai" mobile phones via the Internet or in electrics marts in Taiwan, they will face a fine of up to NTD300,000, which is about CNY60,000.

An officer from the commission further explained that it does not violate the law if Taiwanese people buy "Shanzai" mobile phones while visiting the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong. However, the number of these mobile phones should be limited to five. Any unauthorized radio-frequency device should not be traded in Taiwan.
