Hong Kong inventor Huang Jinfu has published his Unified Code Input Platform, which is a new way to input Chinese characters into computers and mobile devices.

The Unified Code Input Platform combines commonly used Chinese codes: Pinyin; stroke order; five-stroke font; English-Chinese translation; Cantonese pinyin; phonetic notation; and simple Chinese and traditional Chinese character input.

The new system has digitized the fonts and structures of Chinese characters and mapped them with four Arabic numerals. Therefore, at most, only four numbers are needed to create a single Chinese character. Because of this feature, it is convenient for use on mobile phones, telephones and television remote controls that have a digital keyboard.

With the new method, Huang claims users can reach typing speeds of 123 Chinese characters per minute.
