Alcatel to Operate NGN for Shanghai Telecom

China Telecom Group's Shanghai Telecom subsidiary has chosen Alcatel to provide its first commercial Next Generation Network (NGN).

The NGN, which will be completed by beginning of 2004, will give Shanghai Telecom a wide range of new services, including multimedia services, including fully integrated voice, data and multimedia services via Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) and Ethernet to its broadband residential and enterprise customers.
