Chinese telecom operator China Unicom has published its operating statistics for June 2011, stating that the number of its 2G mobile phone users increased by 417,000 and its 3G users increased by 1.855 million during the reporting period.

Chinese telecommunications equipment and network solutions provider ZTE Corporation and British Telecom have jointly announced that the two parties have formed a new research and development partnership to explore the next generation of fixed-line, wireless and mobile telecommunications services.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has published a report for the operational state of the Chinese communication industry for the first nine months of 2010, stating that the country's mobile communication revenue reached CNY465.1 billion during the nine months, a year-on-year increase of 12%.

Chinese telecommunications operator China Unicom has announced that after launching online enquiry and payment functions for mobile phone users across China, the company has now opened a fixed line payment function that is available in 10 northern Chinese cities and provinces, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Jilin, Shandong, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and Henan.

China Unicom has published its operating statistics for November 2008, which state the number of its GSM mobile phone users increased by 996,000 during the month, reaching an accumulated number of 133 million users.

China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited has announced plans to invest CNY6.43 billion to acquire the fixed-line business in Tianjin and 21 southern Chinese provinces from its major shareholders China Unicom Group and China Netcom Group.

According to statistics released by the Monitoring and Coordination Bureau of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, from January to July 2008, the revenue of China's mobile communications industry and data communications industry increased by 16.2% and 40.4%, respectively, over last year while the fixed-line business decreased by 6.8%.

China Netcom announced its unaudited 2008 interim results today and said its revenue for the first half of 2008 hit CNY41.125 billion.

According to China Tietong, its Hong Kong branch has gained a telecommunications unified carrier license from the Office of the Telecommunications Authority of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Chai Baocheng, a deputy to the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, says that charging monthly fees for fixed telephones is a monopolization of the communications industry and he suggests that the fee should soon be canceled.
