China Unicom Gained Net Profit Of CNY1 Billion In Q1 2012

China Unicom has published its financial report for the first quarter of 2012, stating that its operating revenue reached CNY61.193 billion, a year-on-year increase of 24.8%; and its net profit reached CNY1.007 billion, a year-on-year increase of 594%.

The report showed that during the first quarter of 2012, China Unicom's mobile business operating revenue achieved a year-on-year increase of 42.3% to CNY40.45 billion, of which its service income increased by 25.6% to CNY to CNY29.26 billion; and its mobile value-added service income was CNY11.6 billion. Meanwhile, China Unicom reported a net increase of 9.827 million mobile users, reaching a total of 209 million. In addition, its monthly average revenue per user was CNY47.7.

For 3G business, China Unicom's service income was CNY12.53 billion, accounting for 42.8% of its total mobile service income. By the end of the reporting period, the company had gained 48.86 million 3G users, with a net increase of 8.841 million during the reporting period. In this sector, its monthly average revenue per user was CNY93.9 and its monthly average data volume per user was 242.8MB.

For GSM services, the company's revenue was CNY16.73 billion, a decrease of 5% compared with the same period last year. With a net increase of 986,000 users, the total number of its GSM users reached 160 million. The monthly average revenue per user was CNY34.9.

For the fixed-line business, its operating revenue was CNY20.56 billion, including CNY20.55 billion contributed by services. Revenue from fixed-line voice business was CNY14.09 billion, accounting for 68.6% of total fixed line service revenue.

For broadband service sector, China Unicom realized revenue of CNY9.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 13.6%. The number of users reached 58.288 million, with a net increase of 2.637 million. For fixed-line telephone service sector, the company realized revenue of CNY7.57 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 14.7%. The number of users was 92.354 million by the end of the reporting period, a net loss of 497,000 users.
