UTStarcom, a leading global provider of wireless and wireline access and IP switching solutions, on July 7 announced that it has been awarded a contract with China Telecom Corporation to deploy more than 200,000 lines of its AN-2000 IB solution in eight provinces throughout China.

This marks the third and largest IP-DSLAM contract announcement with China Telecom to date. The deployments will take place in some of the most affluent provinces in the country, including Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, and Chongqing. The equipment will be delivered, installed, and ready for operation in the third quarter 2003.

"We believe this contract represents a strong belief by China Telecom that UTStarcom is considered a first-tier supplier of affordable IP-DSLAM solutions that offer outstanding performance and intelligent, next-generation system features," said Ying Wu, chief executive officer at UTStarcom China.
