Wavecom SA has been selected by TCL Mobile Communication to supply its Compact Phones Development Lab solution for use in several of TCL's new handset projects.
For three of its new handsets, including a slim-phone and two camera telephones, TCL has selected the quadband hardware platform WISMO Pac P5186, introduced earlier this year. In addition, TCL will use Wavecom's latest hardware platform, the WISMO Flex, for three new high-end multimedia telephones, scheduled to be launched mid-2004.
All new products planned will target both local and international markets. TCL has also selected multiple software suites from the Compact Phones Development Lab, in order to integrate features such as touch screens, cameras, polyphonic ring tones, WAP, MMS and Java(TM) applications.
Dr. Wan Mingjian, Managing Director of TCL Mobile Communication, said: "Working with Wavecom over the years, we have been able to take a leadership position in China's vibrant handset market and establish TCL as a first-tier brand. Since the beginning of our cooperation in 1999, we have shipped millions of mobile telephones fitted with Wavecom's technology, and we look forward to continuing this successful business partnership."
Mr. Didier Dutronc, Managing Director of Wavecom Asia Pacific Limited, stated: "This new contract marks another milestone in our longstanding relationship with TCL. Since it entered the mobile telephone market, TCL has shown a remarkable ability to understand and adapt itself to a challenging and rapidly changing market. We are delighted to be part of TCL's success, a company that shares our vision in using innovation to develop new opportunities in the exciting market for wireless applications."
