China Unicom Grants Alcatel CDMA, GSM Contract

Alcatel Corp. has announced that it has won multiple mobile expansion contracts from China Unicom valued at $40 million, under the terms of which it provide CDMA network gear to help the operator expand capacity in Shanghai, Hebei and Tianjin.

In addition, Alcatel will supply CDMA equipment to help Unicom optimize the CDMA networks in 10 provinces and autonomous cities, including Beijing, Shanxi and Sichuan.

Separately, Alcatel will supply its GSM solutions to optimize China Unicom's networks in 13 provinces and autonomous cities, including Beijing, Shandong, Shanghai and Zhejiang. Alcatel said when the project is completed at the end of this year, the operator will be able to offer more value-added services to its customers.
