AsiaInfo Holdings, Inc., a provider of software and solutions in China, announced today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tianjin Mobile, a China Mobile subsidiary, for a new pilot program focusing on the development of mobile email services.

Under the MOU, the two companies will work together to develop a package of value added mobile services for Tianjin Mobile's customers. The new services may include push mail, calendar and address book services, etc., and will be fully integrated with China Mobile's current application services, such as SMS, EMS and colour-ringing.

In a related step, AsiaInfo also announced the establishment of a new strategic business unit (SBU), the New Services SBU, in order to ensure the smooth implementation of the Tianjin project and to provide support to China's telecom carriers in developing and providing high-volume value added services in the future.
