According to the Beijing Youth Daily, which cites officials in the Ministry of Information Industry, users of the Little Smart service, a cordless phoning system, will soon be able to send and receive short messages across the nation, as China's telecommunications operators make their message services mutually accessible.
The report continues that China's telecom industry watchdog is stepping up efforts to have the four telecom operators, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Netcom open their short message network to each other, with the interconnection planned for the end of March.
At that point, Little Smart users of China Telecom and China Netcom will be able to send and receive messages to and from not only Little Smart users across the country but also those of other mobile phones. Currently, the messaging service on Little Smart phones is confined to terminals of the same phone system. Only in some areas, are the users able to enjoy cross-province messaging services.
