While details are as yet very scarce, the domestic media are reporting that a telephone system based on peer-to-peer (P2P) communication software has been released.
P2P communications software, which has been around for several years already, has often been expected eventually to replace traditional telephones, but has yet to have a great impact on the telecommunications industry. This is mainly because P2P is still inconvenient to use, requiring both the caller and the receiver to install VoIP software on their computers.
It remains to be seen whether the appearance of this phone will have any great effect on the communications industry.
