Dopod Loses Streaming Wireless Content In Court

January 4, 2005
Law & Policy

Dopod, the creator of Handspring-like mobile phones in China, has been told by a Beijing court to stop using streaming video content from state-run China Central Television (CCTV).

CCTV claimed that Dopod had never received permission to use its content. The judgement calls for Dopod to immediately stop selling services that allow users to view streaming CCTV news programs on Dopod's mobile phone products. Dopod must also apologize to CCTV and pay CNY371000 in compensation for economic losses.

Dopod has not made any public comments about the case, but local media report that an unnamed representative of the company disclosed that they would probably make another appeal within this week.
