The first case in Xinjiang involving virtual asset loss has been settled, with the defendant surnamed Meng sentenced to four years' imprisonment.

Xinhua reports that Meng on July 9, 2004 found that the password of Hui Hua Lian Trading Company's bank account is the same as the mobile phone number of the company's manager. He discovered this via a Tencent QQ email from one of Hui Hua's employees.

After discovering the password, he reportedly stole CNY27456.36 from the company over three occassions.

In consideration of the large sum of money he stole, the court has found Meng guilty of larceny.
